Ruby Crowned Kinglet

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I am currently in Arizona and was in Madera Canyon when I saw this Kinglet heading for a feeder. I usually would not present a picture of a bird on a feeder. I would much rather have this bar be a branch. However, it is so rare for me to see a Kinglet isolated without branches or leaves in the way, I wanted to submit it.

Specific Feedback

Any comments are welcome.

Nice takeoff pose, Charlie, and getting the open beak. Looks okay at the initial view, but the large crop shows in the enlarged views. I agree, it’s nice to get these guys out in the open, they’re usually flitting between the branches.

Hi Charlie
Thank you for sending us this Ruby-Crowned Kinglet. My only nit would be artifacts on the Kinglet head and some background noise. Have you taken a look at DXO Photo Lab 9? The denoise software in Photo Lab 9 should be able to clean this photograph up.
Peter

Very nice Charlie. The very large crop is definitely showing, but I love the pose. Since you used DxO 5 (is that the Pure Raw or the entire package?) I am surprised at how much noise still remained.

Thanks. I will look at DXO. I was afraid of the large crop .
