Sandhill Cranes

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

During a Colorado trip, there was almost nothing moving, as it was about 5 degrees and just after a heavy snowfall.
These guys were braving the cold in an open field we passed. I believe the artistic feel overcomes the non-ideal poses of the birds

This is a really interesting image Sandy. It has a Japanese art feel to me. I like the stark/bleak feel of the cranes on the snow. I wonder how a reverse oval vignette would affect the overall image. I only wish some of them were facing the camera, or a bit more sideways to the camera at least.

I like the curve of the group of cranes, and the snow makes a fine background for them, Sandy. I could wish that at least one was looking at you to act as a focal point, but maybe this image doesn’t really need one. It’s one of those images that would really look good on a wall.

Great art image way beyond birds in a field. This should be printed at least 40 inches

Hi Sandy, really nice grouping shot. The third one from the right’s head looks parallel to the camera to me - I’d count it anyway! Good treatment of the snow. A fine image.

SandyThe high key look plays beautifully with the color of the cranes. The negative space above them balances the very subtle grasses in the foreground. The orientation of each bird adds to the visual interest. A lovely composition.

Sandy, this is a great image, beautifully captured - and a nice composition . I love the center crane as the focal point of the semi-circle. I like the tufts of grass sticking up. I don’t think the birds need to be facing you for this artistic version .
