Sandy: I can’t say that these are beautiful birds (ungainly was my first impression) but they are certainly striking and the capture of the action and the poses is marvelous. I find it interesting how the white of the birds is rendered so well but the blue of the snow is so apparent. I also like the BG and the separation of the wing from the tree trunk. Terrific capture of the moment.>=))>

Hi Sandy,

This is a very clean and crisp image. Poses are nice and you might try to warm it up slightly to reduce the impact of the cyans on the snow. A very minor point for a stellar image…Jim

This is really nice, Sandy. I would look at bringing up the shadowed areas in the snow and wings a bit. It looks like you’re up against the white limit in a few places, but a curves adjustment through a luminosity mask would probably work very well.

Beautiful birds, well photographed. What a great experience you had.

Hi Sandy, although you did a great job in photographing the Crane’s dance, I don’t think his lady friend is buying it.
Peter

Peter - it’s interesting; many of the females seems very indifferent to the exotic dances of interested males. That makes them try even harder!

Sandy, this is a wonderful image. I love the wing spread/dance…I agree with Peter that she doesn’t seem too impressed.

Hi Sandy,
Really nice behavioral capture showing the male strutting his stuff. Whites on the bird look good to me. Maybe brighten the snow a tad? Either way, a fine image showing this courtship display.

Very nice moment. If it were mine, I’d see what it would look like brightened up just smidge w/o blowing out the whites. Just a thought.

Well at least he’s trying with that perfect wing-spread. I love how both red crowns are clearly visible, as sometimes this is hard to photo. Super shot!
