Sandhill Flyby

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

An hour and a half drive gets me down to the Merced National Wildlife Refuge, and it’s always worth it. SO much subject matter and I always hope for some sandhill captures. The only ones I saw were a dozen or so that happened to fly over. I always know to look up as they always call as they fly, I appreciate that.

Specific Feedback

Cropping? Exposure? Anything?

Z9, 180-600 lens, Nikon 1.4 TC, hand held, 1/2000th, f 9.0, 1260mm, ISO 640, cropped to 2897 x 2236.

Nice clear eyes and an interestingly overlapped image, Dave. Whatever noise reduction you’re using seems to have removed all the fine detail in the plumage.

Nice flight shot, Dave, getting them flying in tandem like this. Have you tried DxO for NR? I found it works better than Topaz or Lr denoise and also seems to give a slight amount of sharpening.

Nice flying shot of this pair. I like the similar wing positions and spacing of the heads. I also like the composition with room to fly into. A second nod to DXO PureRaw for noise reduction.

Hi Dave
That is a nice pairing of a Sandhill flyby. Everything looks sharp and the coloring is great.
Peter

I have not, but you guys have inspired me to look into getting DxO for denoising. Thanks for the suggestion.
