Definitely an interesting juxtaposition here, Sandy. I like the similarity in their heads (especially the pink/red) and how they transition to a paler color at the tip of their beaks. The perch is mighty good. Even though the blank sky is usually not ideal, I think it works perfectly for such a complex image.

What a great scene to capture! Pose/separation of the two birds is good and such an interesting perch for them. Looks like you handled the exposure well. The Caracara does look a little soft but it’s hard to tell at the size you shared. But it’s a nice photo of a scene that’s unusual and interesting.

Hello, Sandy, what a great pair they make. Always exciting to have two species in one image, and this is simply stunning to have two raptors sitting side by side. Love it! Hans

I think having any two birds side-by-side, raptors or not is difficult to find. The pose and the perch are quite pleasing. It appears that they could be best of friends, at least in the 640th of the second in which they stood there for you.

David, that thought about “friends” might be shattered if a tasty morsel of prey ran by.

Sandy

A nice pairing, Sandy. Given their similar habits, I guess it shouldn’t be surprising to see them together, but the line up of the two is very cool. I was reading a bird photography book from 1923 a few days ago and the author cited one of the common names of the Caracara as “Mexican Buzzard” and talks about it hanging out with the vultures.
