Shining path

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

They had burned off the grass at a local nature center leaving only the green paths. Previously, post a similar image and it received several comments. Among the comments was to change to B&W. I tried but do not like the results. I tried this composition, which I do like. Brighten the grass ab it.

Specific Feedback

Does this composition work compared to the first submission? Does the color work or is it too much?

Hi John,
I like what you were going for here as that zigzag pathway makes for a wonderful graphic and takes the viewer rather nicely into the scene. The light is also very nice. For my personal tastes I would tone down the green just a little. I am having a little bit of a hard time with those OOF FG bushes as I tend to like my FG sharp. Just my opinion of course. Is it possible to go back and try this again with a focus stack? I will circle back and check out your other post on this subject.

Ed, thanks for your comments. the OOF trees bother me also, but as my walking is very limited I took this from the road out of my car and just could not avoid them. If the weather gives me a break I will try again.

John

Hi John,
This scene is well worth tweaking a little bit if you get the opportunity to visit the location again. You could try focus stacking or using a higher f stop as I noticed you used f 5 which would give you a very shallow DOF. Good luck if you can make it back!I don’t always remember myself, but I try to remember to zoom in on the LCD screen to check on the sharpness and DOF to make sure I have what I wanted before moving on.

John, I prefer your previous post to this one. It’s better exposed. The shadows are unrecoverable in this one. I like the composition better. And there’s less oof in that one. @Ed_Lowe has given some great advice on the dof issue.
