The path

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was attracted to this view because of the contrast between the burned areas and the pathway which remained green. I found the pattern interesting and took a few photos of the scene. I could only shoot from my car which limited my points of view.

Specific Feedback

Is the scene appealing ? Wound B&W work better?

Technical Details

Canon R7, Canon R 100-500mm lens @ 114mm.
1/400 @ F-5 ISO 125
HH from car.

My first thought was that this image would be a perfect candidate for B&W. It would then be all about the design.

My first reaction would be to crop a smidgen on the left side to take out the out of focus tree but leave the corner of the grass with as much space as possible. Also to come down from the top to get rid of the concentration of tree roots. I don’t feel like you loose anything by that kind of crop. I like the contrast between the vertical lines and the zigzag. That said I think the red of the trees also plays off the green of the grass.

This is lovely, John. I like David’s suggested crop. I think this could work really well in black and white, but in color, we see more clearly what is happening here: the green is not a river, gravel, a path; it’s growth, renewal through a burn scar. Both work, but the story is clearer in color.
