The path

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I took the shot in the forrest/moorland on a foggy day in late autumn.
For me, the picture is a reflection how winter and maybe live itself can be sometimes. Dark, heavy and kind of blurry, but with a path through it.

Specific Feedback

Did I succeed with the edit? Can I still call it a landscape shot?
This is a style I quite like but still try to find my personal interpretation (I´m not a “negative” or depressive person, btw). Any opinion and suggestion is very welcome.
I apologize already if it doesn´t fit landscape.

Technical Details

Ralf,

I think this photo fits fine as a landscape. I particularly like the B&W treatment and how the DOF drops off the further along the path you go. I think it conveys the unknown nature of life and how even that path you are on has uncertainty in the future, let alone not knowing what lies to either side of the path beyond those trees. It is an evocative photo. Great job.

Thank you very much, Youssef!!

I think you have captured the feeling you described very well…and @Youssef_Ismail comments.

Although I like the image very much, I feel the blacks are just a little blocky for me and wonder if there is a little more detail in the darks.

I really like the effect you’ve achieved here. Kinda spooky.

Thank you, Glenys!
Well, in the version I did first, the shadows were completely black.
There are details in it but I wanted to go on the “dark side”. I´m somehow fascinated by this look.

Hi Ralf,
Although the image is not very sharp and is quite grainy I find it to be a very evocative scene. For me, the path; flanked by those dark mysterious trees leading the viewer through the image; represents the journey of life that is sometimes scary and never knowing what the future holds for us. Very nicely done.

I think you did a great job catching your vision. Old Film look in my opinion. Has that dark old vibe to it. Very Cool. !!!
