Description

This grove is a short walk from the house. It had a Black and White vibe this day.
I was going for a spooky look being so close to Halloween.

This image does have a spooky vibe and I like it. My only issue is that the foreground trees on the right hand side are a little soft. Its a depth of field issue, so it can’t be corrected now. But overall it’s very nice.

Thank You Will!

I love images of trees and there is a lot of potential in this shot. If you were going for a spooky feeling then for me this does not work, it is too bright. I don’t mind that some trees are not sharp as usually spooky images lack definition and have deep shadows. If you were open to some heavier handed processing I would darken the line of trees either side, especially near the top but leave the lighter glow at the end. Looks like a great place to return to under varying conditions.

For the spooky vibe, I like @mark28’s thoughts. That’s one of the fun things about black and white, you can really go crazy with the processing, and I think that darker would be the spooky ticket here. That, and a hatchet sticking out of the forest in the distance :upside_down_face:

I like your thinking on this one, Mathieu. Black and white treatment is definitely the way to go on this. I might crop off some from the left side to remove the very upper left corner branch that is running diagonal. It also might benefit from a slight counter clockwise rotation as the road seems like it’s tilted to the right. I agree with the others that you could take this much farther towards spooky end of the spectrum.
