Hi @Ben_van_der_Sande, You have shared a lovely walk with us in this image. The side lighting brings out the forms of this stately row of trees and the delicate tracery of the branches above. The golden quality of the light and the scattering of orange leaves balance the greenish tint of the trunks work really well. Well seen and processed.
This has your patented awareness of light but the message is a bit different from your usual images. There is an architecutral sense to this one. The trees remind one of columns in some ancient ruin. I love the pregnant tree. One thing is that the sunlight appears yellowish in places and whitish in others. I would make it consistent.
Emotional Impact and Mood: Wonderful image, Ben! It immediately draws me in and makes me want to follow the trail around the corner at the end. Beautiful warm light and soft colours. Good spotting and processing!
I hate to sound like a broken record but when I saw the thumbnail I knew this was yours Ben. It has your trademark softness and low contrast light that you always present so well. The light is so warm and inviting it just begs me to take a walk down that glorious path into that enchanted forest. The foreground trees start out dark and they force the eye straight down that path into the light. We then get to those wonderful warm, yellow trees midway down the path that makes you just want to push forward on the hike. There is beautiful dappled light and shadow playing across the path contributing to the playfulness of the green/yellow grasses and of course all of the fallen leaves. You then head into that darker section at the end of the tunnel but it’s not scary or frightening. It just tells you that there are more trees to help guide your way and that you won’t ever get lost and that there is mystery and intrigue along the way. It’s a wonderful day to take a long walk in Winter.
@Igor_Doncov , @Bill_Fach , @patrick1 , @David_Haynes , @guy , I appreciate very much your knowledge, advice, tips and time by giving comment on this image.
Most of the time you all see more in my images than I do. For me it’s good to see that I am on the right track. While I just do, without to much technical knowledge.
Thank you all. Ben
Ben, what a great spot for a walk in the winter woods. This sure invites me to get going. You have a special way with handling the light, turning the common scenes that many of us enjoy, but would not think to photograph, very inviting.
I think this is a fine image. I’m a fan of leading lines, paths, etc. I like an image to invite me in and provide a reason to explore. This image does that. The colors and contrast are also inviting. Well done.
Yes Ben I really enjoy this image. I envy your ability to making a common thing beautiful. Often I see simple things that I like but avoid photographing it because I think that I will do an image of no interest for anyone. Therefore I think that your first quality is not to be influenced by this sensation first f all; then your other qualities come.
Hi Ben,
I love everything about this scene! The side light is exquisite as it brings out an array of so many wonderful details as it invites the viewer down that lovely path into the woods. This is a wonderful presentation of light and shadow and your haiku’s always seem perfect for the image presented. Thanks for sharing your vision with us.
I’m a bit late to the dance but I wanted to chime in and add how perfectly lovely this image is. As all have noted, it includes your typical sensitivity to light but as Igor pointed out, this one has a far more architectural perspective than most of your work. What makes this so special for me is the variation in the colour of the trees as we proceed down the path towards the dark, barely seen shapes at its end. There is a lot to see as I move down the path, not the least of which is that giant burl on the left. Gorgeous light, beautifully seen and executed.
