Snipe Hunt

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I like the head turn, but still, with all that grass in the way, it’s more of an environmental shot, which I like.

Specific Feedback

Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi Allen, I like this as an environmental shot which shows typical habitat where we would see this species. The pose is quite nice too though with a good look at the eye/head and that impressive long beak. Nice frame.

For me it is a portrait and an environmental shot in one. I like it. The pose is good and it shows the bird and its habitat. Nice capture.

I like this, Allen, and the title is so appropriate. I still remember boy scout snipe hunts when I didn’t even realize what it was we were supposed to be hunting for (I don’t think we had any birders).

I always like half hidden birds because that’s how we usually see them, so this works well for me.

Hi Dennis, I, too, remember snipe hunts in the Boy Scouts. I always thought it was a joke, an exercise in futility. It wasn’t until I became a birder that I realized there actually was a snipe.

Allen, I like how you captured him with his head turned. Nice shot of him in his environment. I was shooting a Great Blue recently, and I kept trying to get it where the grass wasn’t in front of his long beak, but yours works because the grass is within the DOF making them in focus. Mine wasn’t, and to me it looked funny. Nice shot.
