Description

A flock of turkeys wandered thru out back and got pretty close. I managed this early morning capture of one of the toms. They are sooo weird looking.

Dave, this is a great portrait. Weird is right, but nature’s beauty and uniqueness is fantastic.

I like the square crop and the position of the head in the frame. Nice sharp eye too with great catchlight.

I like the oof background too. Although I see some weirdness in the left side…it might be the characteristic of the lens, or possibly some healing artifacts. Either way selecting the background and adding a touch of negative clarity would smooth it out nicely. Or use the blur tool in Photoshop if you want…

Great catch.

Very nice close up Dave. The bird looks great. Nice sharpness, clarity, exposure, color, and a great look at the eye. I also see the artifacts in the background on the left. Should be an easy fix to smooth those out.

They are funny critters for sure. When I see highly specialized adaptations on birds, I think about what dinosaurs must have had. Probably amazing and slightly scary. The colors and textures are spot on and I like the way the eye is lit up, too. Clearing up the areas David noted will only help this photo be even better.

Hi Dave. A great job on this portrait. I’m noticing the anomalies on the left as well. The repair brushes in PS sometimes generate a sharp edge in the repair. Just going over the area with low opacity, soft brush cloning will take care of it pretty easily.

Thanks. I need to be more careful using photoshop’s spot healing brush tool, yep.

Dave, really excellent detail on the head/eye and colors on this nice portrait. The dark BG sets the bird off well. Sweet image!

There’s so much to explore just in the turkey that I think a crop from the left solves two issues for you: eliminates the “problem” area where the healing brush was used, and puts more emphasis on the details of the bird and that great reverse S shape.
