Snowy Plovers

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Unlike other shore birds, I’m more likely to see the Snowy Plover a ways up the beach and these two were resting in the sand and allowed me to get fairly close. Try as I might, I couldn’t get them both in focus despite a small aperture and moving to a place that seemed parallel with both. So, I ended up with a composite. The one on the left was the composited bird.

Specific Feedback

Processing errors with the left bird?

Allen, Really nice image of these elusive little things. I’ve rarely been able to get close enough for a decent shot.
Fine work with the composite - I can’t tell at all. Looks perfectly natural. Both with nice poses, a bright eye, and fine detail.
A little more room on the left would be good…

Hi Allen. Nice job on the composite-sometimes that’s the only way to go and it works well in this case. The frame does feel a bit tight, but that’s very minor. Since you asked about the compositing, I looked closely at the area immediately around the bird and there’s a small area above the tail where the sand is out of focus, yet in focus above it and to the left of it which I suspect is an anomaly from the compositing. A little careful cloning on the background would easily fix it.
