I am fortunate to have a family of Tawny Frogmouth nightjars that roost in a small tree directly in front of my bedroom verandah. Most mornings he (and often, she and youngster) is busy sleeping off the the nights hunt. Tawnies are well known for the “pretend to be a stick and no one will notice me” pose.
Agreed! Along with being an excellent photo of the subject, I very much like how this photo illustrates how well this species can blend with the surroundings.
Glenys, the bird is very nicely camouflaged against that tree trunk. How nice to have them nesting where you can watch them. The touch of oof leaves on the right adds nicely to the “hiding out” idea.
Great eye-seeing and capturing the owl’s mood in this fine image Glenys! I like the framing, even though the head is not centered, the diagonal line from tail to head is pleasing to me. Off-center does not always work but in this case, it does for me. The only issue for me is the blurred right top/side of the foilage is distracting but there is probably not much that can be done about that without pruning shears. Otherwise another excellent image!
@Sandy_Richards-Brown , I do have more room on the left. The leaves got into a bit of a tangle there and I couldn’t find a suitable cut-off place. I figured the curvy twig was just enough framing for the bird.
