Southern Pale Chanting Goshawk

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

These are fairly common raptors in Africa, and often cooperative if you’re not too close. They prefer to sit on the top of shorter bushes, listening intently (as here) for slight movements in the brushy ground cover that indicate a furry meal.
This one was higher than ideal, so I climbed up the ladder to the top of our Hilux and sat on the (second) spare tire.

Good job getting eye level with this Sandy. I love the soft grey colors, the raptor eye, and the nice complementary BG. Nice, clean image.

Lovely detail and I like the little head tilt for the listening posture. I don’t know if you have more on the bottom, but this has the feel to me of being perilously close to clipping the unseen toes.

A striking raptor image, nice marking in the “leggins”. Does feel a little tight at the bottom. But what a good look even for a common bird there.

Hi Sandy, really nice catch. Love complimentary-colored BG and perch! Nice sharpness and exposure. Maybe a tad more room on the left. Well done.

Hi Sandy
Great looking Hawk, the eye contact and head turn nail the framing. There are some digital artifacts on the lower edge of the Goshawk wing. You can also see it in the black and white striping of the legs. Some times one & zeros, just can’t keep up.
