Description
this image is a little soft and it’s probably a depth of field problem but I think it’s cool enough to look at. Catching small birds in flight is not easy. You have to guess where the Bird is going. You really need to be of good Investigator Into the behavior of these animals.

Hi David, nice in flight catch of this little beauty. I like the wings up pose and the dangling feet. I see a hint of an eye catchlight even with the light seeming to come from the back or top. BG looks good to me and as you mention the bird is reasonably sharp. Nice capture.
You’re making me jealous, David. I agree that when I open your ridiculously large version, there’s softness in the bird, but at the 32 inch screen filling size it looks very good. Great wing position and a nice background as @Allen_Sparks noted.
BTW, this is a female finch. Probably a house finch.
House finch for sure. Don’t know what I was thinking when I put down the title, but I thought I had seen a few sparrows that day. Interestingly, I have not seen a single golden Crown sparrow this year at all and I have seen very few Song sparrows.
The house finch is moving at an angle away from you so the head is just out of range of ideal focus. Pose and exposure are excellent. Bg is perfect as well…Jim
I am absolutely amazed at people capturing these small birds in flight so well! This may be a silly idea but …since we read left to right I feel like he is flying out of the frame - what about flipping it horizontally so he is flying right to left so more into the frame? Just a thought.
