Spring Beauty

Description

Spring Beauty, Claytonia virginica, is one of the early spring wildflowers in the Eastern forests. They continue growing new flowers for much of the spring flowering season. The also vary a lot in terms of how much pink there is in the flowers, with some being almost pure white. Their flowers open and close every day when the sun shines, making them easy to overlook if you’re out at the wrong time or under the wrong conditions.

Specific Feedback

This view, with a few left over drops from the previous day’s rain, shows flowers and buds against a leaf litter background.

Technical Details

R5, 180 mm macro, 1/200 s, f/11, iso 800, tripod. A 22 shot stack.

Mark, this image is beautiful! The focus stack worked well. The softness of the background works well (did you have to blur it?). My only thought is that I’d like to see a little more stem at the bottom of the image. The buds seem very crowded. Otherwise, gorgeous!

Mark: What a wonderful little group and an exceptionally nice comp and capture. Makes me want to be there. :+1: :+1:>=))>

Excellent, Mark. We have the same or a very closely related plant in the forests on the west coast and it’s always been one of my favorites. I really like your composition for this one.

A terrific shot Mark - I love the water droplets and (if you look really closely) the pollen grains on the stems (at least that’s what they look like to me!)
The background sets off the delicate colour of the flowers wonderfully. A shot I wish I’d made, if that counts for anything :slightly_smiling_face:

Best, Godfrey

Mark,

Beautiful photo! Composed expertly and the DOF is perfect, focus stacking has really changed the Macro game. The BG color and darkness set off the Claytonia perfectly.
