Spring couple

Image(s)

Image Description

Sunrise fog on a small river in March, a few years ago. The picture still sticks in my mind. Five minutes later, the fog was gone. Three minutes before, there was none. Speaking of luck. The two ducks also left the left shore and then turned at the moment I hoped they would. Needless to say that I went back a number of times, but never found something similar again.

You will have understood that I like the picture very much. But please, go ahead and tell me what you would have done otherwise and how I could improve this one. I wonder for instance on the amount of grasses on the left side.

There is a lot to like about this image. The fog serves to both simplify the image by covering up distractions and it serves to give the image a very nice calming or dreamy mood. The silhouettes of the ducks makes a great subject and the golden color cast is especially nice! I am not able to see a better composition. The one very minor suggestion I would make would be to remove a couple of the reeds that are coming out of the heads of both ducks. I have attached a version of the image demonstrating this idea.

Xavier, it’s easy to see why you like this image. The overall gold from the sunlit fog and the silhouetted ducks make for very peaceful viewing. While it’s “standard” practice to not have things sticking out of something alive, I don’t see that as a problem here.
