Squatter in a hurry

The squatter pigeon is a medium size, ground-dwelling pigeon that inhabits arid areas of eastern Australia. The species population is in decline. Greatest threats are loss and fragmentation of habitat and degradation of habitat by overgrazing and invasive weeds. The bird is listed as Endangered. This little fellow walked gingerly through our campsite.

Aw, what a sweet thing, but a sad story, so common to many of our fellow earthlings. The camouflage is on full display here, wow. That little touch of orange is striking. So many pigeons and doves have fabulous details in their plumage. Glad you captured this and got to encounter such a rarity.

A very cool bird, Glennie. I like the angle and the way it fits into the habitat. Nice eye contact and pose as well.

Really excellent color, detail, and composition. The bird fits really well into its environment. The reddish ring around the eye fits in real well with the rock behind the pigeon. This has really wonderful sense of place.

Glennie, you have worked your magic again, with both texture and color – this is just GORGEOUS! The DOF is perfect and the bird is so beautiful. It seems cautious but comfortable with your presence.

This has the qualities of a piece of art. I think this would be a lovely image even without the bird.

Hi Glennie
I love the low angle and the eye coloring and detail. The over all image really tells a story of Squatter Pigeon’s environment. Vary nice work.

Ps what camera are you using?
