This image captures a sunrise over Cayuga Lake in central New York’s Finger Lakes region. I was able to position myself such that the sun and horizon are not disrupted by the frame of the boat dock. I liked the way the soft lines of the water and horizon are contrasted by the hard straight lines of the dock. I also enjoy employing a diagonal in my images, which the dock also provides here.

Mark, this is a lovely sunrise image. The sun and it’s reflection stand out (of course…), but the ripples in the lake, the touch of cloud and the dock do a great job of putting me right there enjoying the sight and the sounds.
Everything you mentioned works really well for this scene, Mark. I find the warm tones of the water to be very inviting. It may not be possible, but if you were able to bring out a little more detail in the sun and it’s reflection it would make this wonderful image even better. Nicely done.
