Histogram In Camera Raw

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I found this location on accident. I basically drove down a random dirt road. I hopped the treeline with the drone. This composition stood out to me more so than the others I was trying to compose with my handheld camera as I was able to get to this height without climbing a massive tree.

I camped here overnight to get a few attempts at decent light.

Specific Feedback

Does this Crop work for you guys? Do you think the image could be more powerful with a crop that eliminates some of the bottom portion of the image?

Any other feedback is welcome.

Technical Details

Iso 100
f 2.8
24mm Drone
1/2500 ND Filters were not an option. That’s a long story.

Oooh such beauty. Good for you for exploring it. My immediate reaction was to frame a square crop. Might be worth exploring. I have a soft spot for square aspect ratios.

This is really nice. I envy you. No scenic locations that available to me even allow drone flights. I definitely wouldn’t crop from either side. I wouldn’t want to lose those nice green pines. A little crop from the bottom might work. Beautiful shot.

Drones constraints make things difficult this was luckily outside of the boundary. If I remember right I did not have leeway to fly much further and being on the public road made it possible.
Thanks for your reply and the time you spent! I appreciate it

I’ll give it a shot. Thanks for your response. I appreciate it.

Hi Dan,
This is certainly a grand view with some lovely autumn color along with a drama laden sky. I do like my brother’s @Michael_Lowe crop. My only suggestions; just my personal taste; would be to lighten the URC just a little; as it is so much darker than the rest of the sky; and darken the clouds just a little to balance the tones out. Beautifully done.

Hey, thanks for the compliments. Thank you for the sky suggestions and the crop input. For some reason I get attached to my initial composition that I had in mind. Crop Opinions are very helpful because its hard to see outside the initial box.

Dan,

Oh my! This is gorgeous! I especially like the evergreens perfectly surrounding the aspen. Then top this off with a glorious sky and the mountain range… just awesome.

Personally, I love the crop as presented. I would agree about dodging the UR open sky just a smidge, but doesn’t need too much. And this is quite minor, but if mine would clone out the yellow tree in the exact LRC, lower right corner.

Otherwise… print this big!

Hey thanks for the compliments and feedback! I will clone that lower right tree in the corner if I decide on the original composition as the final image.
