Description
Three phases of a sunrise on the lake behind my house. The time ranges from 5:28 am to 5:56 am. All shots were taken from a boat. This light you see is quite prevalent from late May to early June here in NW Florida. It is a luscious light, ethereal, yet while soft at the beginning of sunrise, it evolves into an almost overly luminous light in the span of just a 1/2 hour.

Thanks for treating us to not just one, but three beauties. If I had to choose, it would be the second one. It has an ethereal, painterly feel to it. The first one is more static. The play of color is beautiful, but the dark trees on the left feel heavy to my eye and do not balance the rest of the composition. A tighter crop might help with the balance. The third has its own charm. The many dead snags add movement, but I am more attracted to the “live” feel of the second photo. All in all, a fascinating triptych.
I agree with @Barbara_Djordjevic on this series Chris. These all showcase some beautiful light and colors. I do like the second one best because of the trees and the shrouded sun and reflections which seem to bring a more vibrant feeling overall. I envy your backyard lake.
Thanks, Ed & Barbara. The second image is one my all time favorites. The first image was shot when the boat was going about 30mph as we were trying to get to where image 2 and 3 were shot. I have many shots from those same locations in the same time frame over a period of three years. The hurricane altered that landscape so much as to be unrecognizable now. Obladi, oblada…
I agree with the “votes” for the second image. The colors and feel of the image are wonderful. I would play around with a slight decrease in the sky exposure. I also would have been tempted to try a really long camera exposure to get the glassy water effect that might accentuate the tree shadows. Then I saw you were shooting from a boat so probably not posssible!
Chris,
All three images are quite nice with the second one being my favorite. It has a nice peaceful vibe to it that I find very inviting and the perfect way to start off the day. I also like the mix of warm and cool tones as well as not blowing out the sun. Beautiful scene!
All great shots, Chris, especially the second one IMHO. That one stands a little above the other two in terms of subject, color and composition.
I will point out though only the first image is considered a twilight shot.
