Description

A week ago, I was driving towards the spot where I wanted to be at sunrise. I saw these trees up on a ridge. I drove past them but then turned around and went back to photograph them.

Don,
Good call to turn around IMO as I love all those arching leafless limbs of the trees. They make for a wonderful silhouette against the predawn sky. I am also enjoying the slight pink warmth in the sky as it is another nice element in this scene. I am not sure what it is, but there is some weird banding in the sky. This is just my personal preference, but I like this even more with a crop of about 1/2 of the sky above the tallest tree. Were you able to make it to your sunrise location in time?

Ed, thanks for the response and for the thoughtful comments.

I see the banding you mention. There’s no banding in the original. It seems to come from the compression required to post the photo here. It’s quite possible that I’m not doing it properly. As for the crop, there’s a good case to be made for a different crop but I prefer to keep the 2X3 aspect ratio.

I did make it to the sunrise location on time but I didn’t get any interesting photos.
