Sunset, Pescadero State Beach, California

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

As long as I can remember, this stretch of the beach is never the same when I visit it. Sometimes there is so much sand, none of the stones are visible. Other times, all the sand is gone, nothing but stones, I have no idea where the sand goes.

On this particular visit, the stone shadows created an optical illusion. Half the time, the stones look like they are protruding out of the sand. Half the time, they look like depressions in the sand. Interesting how my mind interprets the image in different ways.

Specific Feedback

I’m curious if any of you also see the stones and shadows randomly switch every time you view the image.

Technical Details

1/5 sec at f/11, ISO 100, 85 mm prime.

Franz: I like the color palette and the play of light and shadow especially. I honestly don’t see the illusion you refer to but I have poor binocular vision and could never see the images in those crazy collages or whatever they were called. It’s good to revisit favorite sites as the light is always different and on a beach the rocks are never the same. Nicely seen and captured. >=))>
