After a devastating wildfire in the Arizona desert, many of the cacti succumbed to the heat, the surviving saguaro as well as the snow on the Four Peaks Mountain range underscoring the vast extremes of the desert.

A compelling image of the devastation. I think the black and white treatment help convey that as well. The tallest saguaro offers some hope by continuing to stand tall.

Thank you, Dean. On a brighter note, that was taken about two years ago. I recently went back, and it is amazing to see how well the desert regenerates itself. But yes, a lot of cacti, among them a huge number of saguaros, succumbed to the fires…
