Tangerine Sky

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This image is another oldie but goodie. The sunrise was still 25 minutes away when the sky lit up with this tangerine color. I also liked the light mist among the MG peaks. This scene was captured from Sunset Hill in Sugar Hill. It also makes for a wonderful sunrise location as well.

Specific Feedback

Yellow to much? I thought about de-saturating it a little, but thought I would see what others thought.

Technical Details

Nikon D700, Nikon 80-200 @ 80 mm, f 14 @ 1/10 sec, ISO 200, cable release & tripod.

Ed, the depth through the mountains is great plus there’s a nice left to right sweep. I also like the small clearing in the middle distance…a hint of humanity. That’s a bit that could be removed, depending on what overall feeling you’re trying to create. I do think that more contrast in the sky (especially the left half) would add to this excellent view. It easy to see why it’s a favorite.

Another good one from Sinset Hill, Ed. After the sky, the hint of mist was the next thing I was attracted to. The different tones in the ridges really make them stand out from each other. The color looks fine to me. Seems it’s an accurate representation of that morning. My raw file looks the same.
