Tangled path

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was walking through a a desert wash. The gnarly twists and turns of this tree attracted my attention.

Specific Feedback

Any and all.

Technical Details

Canon 60D converted for infrared, 18mm, ISO 100, f/11, 1/10th sec. This one was processed in a fairly routine way in Lightroom and Photoshop. Mostly I tinkered with the tones.

This is great! IR is so much fun.
I think the composition works nicely here as it twists and turns through the scene. The central focal point of light is nice as well. I might embellish that a little bit more, but not much.

Thanks, Matt. Originally the brightest tones were a little brighter but I wasn’t comfortable with the look and I backed them off a little.

Very Cool Image !!! I really like the Lines and Tone !!! Nice Composition and works great in Black and White !!!

Thanks, Gill. I’m glad this one connected with you.

Moody and mysterious; I am liking this scene Don! I don’t think I would have guessed this was a desert wash without your explanation as this appears to be in a forest. Very nicely done. I could also see this with a bit more contrast.

Ed, thanks for the comments. A “wash” in desert-speak is a place where water flows intermittently after heavy rains. They tend to be pretty heavily vegetated, as this one is.

IR has given this a wonderful mysterious look, commensurate with the mysterious-forest composition! I love the glowing light in the BG!

Don,

A wild and almost wicked pathway. it is a very evocative photograph. IR was perfect for it.
