The Burning Tree

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We had amazing conditions in 2021 in the eastern sierras, shooting fall colors after a fresh snow. This scene was next to a river in one of the canyons south of Mammoth. The light was just breaking through enough to light up the leaves of this tree against the darker pines in the background. It was a magical scene for sure!

Specific Feedback

Thoughts on the luminosity balance between the tree and the other elements? Any other feedback on composition, editing, etc.

What a remarkable situation. The natural separation of the main subject from everything else, especially the background, is just perfect. It’s amazing what the sun chooses to light up.

You were fortunate to be there to photograph this incredible light display.

Just for fun, I uploaded a version where took out what I feel are distractions and small hot spots in the image. You may want to compare the two to see how many areas have what I consider distractions.

Excellent job on this.
