Description

Primoz Church, Jamnik, Julian Alps, Slovenia.

Unusually even my daughter, who is not a morning person, opted to join me for a very early start to see this wonderful scene unfold, from twilight pre-dawn glow, through sunrise, to the exquiiste play of honey coloured morning sunlight bathing the hilltop ridge, grass covered slopes and autumnal trees. We wer both gazing in rapturous awe when valley mist arose from the base of the mountains to cast a thinly veiled wreath around the steeple. Just stunning.

Ian,

Wonderful light in this photograph. I love the subtle hint of baby blue in the sky. Perfect placement of the church as a focal point. Yes that mist veiling the BG adds such mystery to the whole scene.

Ian: What a beautiful scene made even better for you having your daughter with you. When I saw the thumbnail with your name on it I thought, “This doesn’t look like Scotland.” I do love the haze in the BG but do like the image better with less featureless sky. I don’t think it is worthy of the amount of real estate it has in the frame. Making about 50% of it go away strengthens the overall comp IMO. Still your image definitely makes me want to go there. >=))>

Now that’s some gorgeous light. Great that you could spend the morning together with your daughter. The only suggestion I would have is that of @Bill_Fach about the sky.

Hi Ian,
That is definitely some gorgeous early morning light and the best part is you got to share it with your daughter! This is a lovely pastoral scene with the church sitting on the ridgeline overlooking the surrounding landscape and the light mist around the steeple is the icing on the cake. I too could see a crop of some of the sky as well as those leaves intruding along the left edge toward the LLC. They just look out of place; at least to me; due to them being on another plane. I hope you do not mind, but here is a rework with what I was thinking. Just my opinion of course. Very nicely done.

I am simply loving the description and the words you chose to describe this gorgeous scene yu captured with your daughter. It makes me hope that getting up early in the morning for this and watching it unfold before her eyes will make it easier for her to come with you next time you ask her to come along.
As for the scene itself, what’s not to love about this? You placed the church perfectly in your composition and those golden hills are just stunning. I like @Ed_Lowe crop removing part of the sky and some of the shrubs making a stellar image even better. Way to go Ian!
