Image Description

Giant’s Causeway. This is a formation of around 40,000 basalt columns on the northern coast of Ireland. The ancient Irish believed this was man-made architecture, with folklore telling the story of an Irish giant building the causeway over to Scotland in order to fight a Scottish giant. After a series of comical misadventures in both Scotland and Ireland, the episode concluded with the Scottish giant fleeing back to Scotland and tearing up the causeway as he went. Remnants of the “causeway” still exist on both the Irish and Scottish coast.

I’d appreciate any thoughts you have. I think the most challenging part of processing this image was getting good tonal range and detail in the foreground as they were relatively flat out of the camera.

Scott, this is a fine mix of the tops, the sides and the wave action. As presented the brightness (and thus attention) is quite similar between the foreground tops, the waves and the columns at the top. That may be what you want, but I think a bit more separation between these three areas would be good.

Thank you for your insights Mark. I reworked it to darken the foreground and did a little dodging of the waves to lighten up that area. I think it did improve the image, but would love to hear what others think.
