The "Joys" of Parenthood

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Another old image, though not quite as old as the last one. I liked the counterpoint of the male bringing in food and the female taking out a fecal sac.

Specific Feedback

Do the out of focus leaves in the background create a distraction? I lined this up to make the body of the bird box vertical, but somehow the door on this one was ajar and I didn’t want to close it with an active nest in it, so it created the apparent slant on the front of the box. Would it make more sense to level on the door?

Technical Details

Canon 7Dii, Sigma 150-600 contemporary @ 388 mm, f/8, 1/800, iso 2500.

Not at all. In fact, I quite like the colors of the background blending nicely with the colors of the birds and the box and they are OOF enough to not be distracting at all.

I’d have to see both side by side but if you hadn’t mentioned it, I probably wouldn’t have even noticed it. It’s just the angle.
You have great interaction between the two birds and I too like that the female is removing a fecal sac. That’s a nice catch. The light is soft and subtle and the colors look great to my eye. I love old finds like this in the catalogue.

The background looks fine, Dennis, and I like the light on the birds.

The BG is fine and I am tempted to bring up the brightness slightly to get those blues to pop. A nice set of poses showing nestling care in the lives of western bluebirds…Jim

Dennis, the behavior caught is great. The box looks normal and the background works fine. It might be worth a bit of mid-tone dodging on the birds to show them off slightly more strongly.

Hi Dennis
The framing and background are fine. I love the male expression, " You are not welcome. Nice work.
