About This Image

I built a special bird house for tree swallows and placed it at the edge of the vegetable garden. A pair of bluebirds moved in and a group of tree swallows tried to get their house back. I dashed back to the garage and found an old lichen encrusted bluebird house and placed this at the far corner of the garden. The nect day, a pair of tree swallows moved in and now have 4 new mouths to feed.

Feedback Requested

This was a backlit shot due to the fact that I could get an open shot of the action with artistic bg. And, I did not want to get too close to the subjects as they are very busy with raising a family. How do you like the post processing for the shadows?

If your Eastern Bluebirds are anything like our Western they compete heavily with the tree swallows for boxes and no matter how many we put up, there are arguments of the ones they consider prime real estate. The first year we had Bluebirds they chose a swallow house my wife’s ex made that had the hole in the bottom!

Anyhow this crusty old box is probably more photogenic than the new one so it adds nicely to the fine image of the swallow. The processing looks excellent all around and the backlit wings are awesome.

Hi Jim, very nice upward wings position with a good view of the bird’s body. Light is nice on the wings. I like the overall composition with the old box and the bird exiting. I see a fair amount of noise on the bird’s tail though.

Hi Jim

This is another photograph that is on my bucket list. The background and backlight wings are great.
