The Swallows Are Back

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We had the first swallows show up a couple of weeks ago, but this last week the full mob of Tree and Violet-greens showed up. A few of mornings ago, I counted 7 perched on boxes, 8 in an oak tree and 26 on the front fence in just a casual walk to put out bird feed and open the gate for my wife. I finally took a few minutes Friday morning to take some photos. This perch is attached to one of the most popular nest boxes.

Specific Feedback

I’m mostly interested in whether this composition works.

Technical Details

Sony A1, FE200-600 + 1.4 TC @ 840 mm, f/9, 1/10,000, iso 5000 (don’t ask me why I had such foolish settings-I obviously wasn’t paying attention). Processed in DxO PureRaw 5, LR & PS CC. Cropped to 3912x4360. Taken Friday at 7:21 a.m.

Hi Dennis
The sunlight gives this Swallow great coloring, and the eye is a bonus.

I’d say the composition works, Dennis; the swallow is nicely placed in the frame with a nice head turn. Good light and detail. I find tree swallows can be tough to photograph, but you nailed it.

Hi Dennis, I like the composition with the curvy perch and bird on top. Nice iridescence on the bird even though bird and perch doesn’t seem real sharp.
