The Long March

Image Description

Travelling in the northwest of Namibia, adjacent to the Skeleton Coast, I spotted this herd of elephants in the far distance. They were moving at quite a clip, and were clearly on their way to search for water in this arid land

Any and all.
I (obviously) cropped this from the standard 35 mm framing. I did not feel that the empty expanse above and below added anything, whereas the panoramic view (in my opinion) added a sense of direction and urgency.
Let me know.

Pieter: I think you made some really good choices with your pano crop and I do indeed think it conveys a sense of haste on the herd’s part. A part of the world I’ve not visited except through the eyes and lenses of folks like you. Nicely conceived and captured. >=))>

Thank you, Bill. Namibia is difficult but very worthwhile. I have been there four times over the decades. On my first trip , in the Eighties, I did 6,000 miles in three weeks.

Pieter, your pano crop works well here to focus on the chorus line of elephants. The soft colours of both the mammals and the grasses coordinate nicely.
I wonder what a B&W conversion would look like ?
Very fine image -

I appreciate the movement shown through the pano view, and great job on sharpness with the moving elephants. The movement is blocked a little by the bush on the left side. If there wasn’t any distractions above, I wonder what it would look like with just a little more room over the bush - allowing for this movement to go over the top of the bush.

Thank you, Sandy, I really appreciate your feedback. I will play with a monochrome version. Good suggestion, take me out of my comfort zone (AKA “rut”).

Thank you, Harvey, I will have a look at broadening the horizon. Great suggestion!
