Description
Out shooting again after surgery. Feels great to use my camera again and try to be productive. Found this shot of an old door at an old church … Years have taken a tool on this door and i went for that old school look in editing.
Specific Feedback
I like the texture and that Rough look this door showed. Maybe could have framed it a little better but i liked the darkness at the bottom. The tone and texture was real important to me. Black and White gave me that look or vibe !!!
Technical Details
ISO 400 f14 shutter 250 if memory serves me well … edited in Photoshop

I like the looks of this old door, Gil, though I kind of wish they hadn’t updated the lock. As for composition, the idea of leaving a bit more room on one side works for me, but I think a looser composition would also be nice as I really like the way the arched bricks at the top frame the door and I’d like to see the complete arch.
Thanks for showing interest. Framing could have been better. The tone and texture was the goal. That’s the cool thing about photography. So many ways to look at an image and how to capture a way to present it.
Gill, I like how the upper left and right dark corners balance the dark bottom. I believe old doors are usually more dirty and eroded at the bottom, so lightening this area would detract from the feel of photo. I also like the contrast between the brick arch with mortar “rays” and the white frame around the door and window.
Have you considered how the photo would look if the new door lock and hinges were burnt in, in particular the new lock? I would also like to compare this photo to a looser framed photo (also off center a touch) if the vertical aspect of the door was corrected or the photo was taken from further away using a longer lens.
Thanks. The door could have been shot many ways. I was shooting for texture and tone that I saw. I may take the lock out. Good suggestion. Thanks again.
