Description
Fall wildflowers are sparse due to extremely dry conditions. This poor aster is looking ragged while being munched on by this chrysomelid beetle. I left the curly petal in on the LH side which emphasizes the poor condition of the flower. This can easily be taken care of with a tighter crop.

Excellent!! Wonderful colors and sharp where it needs to be. I love the drooping petal and wonder if there is a bit more canvas to the left to make it feel more like an intentional inclusion. It balances the beetle both visually and anthropomorphically – if I may elevate the beetle to some equivalent of human importance in the broader scale of things.
Nice, Jim. I really like the beetle and the condition of the flower. Normally, I’d like the curled petal on the left, but I have to admit that it’s something of an eye magnet.
Nice, Jim. Glad you were able to find the colorful flower and the beetle. The eye is nice and sharp on the beetle, and I’m okay with the curled petal as is. Nicely done.
Jim: Good comp and I’m very OK with the petal and almost wish it had a touch more room. Kind of surprised there is not more DOF at f22 but such are the challenges of macro. What is sharp is spot on. I also like the bedraggled state of the flower and think there is an unspoken story there. Nice find and a fine capture. >=))>
I’m fine with the comp; I agree with Bill about wishing for a bit more DOF. Maybe try for a 2 or 3 shot stack, then remove any blur from, say, waving antennae by retouching. It’s a very attractive beetle.
