Description

In central Italy there is a zone called the tuff area that was inhabited by the Etruscans before Christ. It had a flourishing period in the Middle Ages of which many buidings are preserved like this medieval walls all around the old town of Orvieto, the most important in the tuff area. The tuff is a malleable stone that was used for building houses and defence constructions. It is easily attacked by atmospherical agents that in this case in centuries have drew the head of a bison.

Interesting phenomenon, Giuseppe. I really like the textures and patterns in this wall. Nicely seen and photographed.

I do see the bison on the large version. Tuff is a compacted volcanic ashfall. Italy has plenty of that.
