This is from the same day as my last post. I let the Zodiac drift into a canal inlet and photographed the Snowy Egret for about 5 minutes. In the second shot, the wind had picked up, and that also added to the soft look of this shot.

Z8, Nikon 180-600mm & 1.4ext, f9, +.7EV, 660mm, 1/2000, ISO 900, and cropped and processed in DXO PhotoLab 9.
Two very beautiful images, Peter, with the second being my favorite for the softness created by the breeze in the plumage. It also happens to be one of my favorite preening poses for this kind of bird. It’s interesting that the high contrast between the black legs and the background tend to create after images of the legs in the background as my eyes move around the image-a bit disconcerting at first.
Thank you for the comments. You are a witness to DXO PhotoLab 9’s best effect with the retouching tool. There was a rather dark and out-of-focus cloud just off the log and behind the right leg of the snowy.
Both are beautiful shots. I love the details in the bird and the log, and the muted colors. The second one shows more action and details may be more interesting to bird enthusiasts. I’d maybe play around with white balance–the bird seems to be just a little too much on the cold side.
And I’m glad to see I’m not the only photographer on the planet who is not using Lightroom. Hello, fellow Photolab user!
Thank you for the comments. I did swing the color balance on the Snowy from 5028 to 5228. The overall ability to control image quality, noise & masking, make DXO PhotoLab 9 a great product. The retouching tool is not a strong point. Not paying a monthly fee is also a plus.
