Description
The heavy mists from Lower Falls in Yellowstone build up interesting ice formations alongside the river. For this view, I wanted to zoom in on the falling water, the swirling mist, the ice formations and the canyon walls while maintaining textures in all. An overcast sky kept the dynamic range under control.
Specific Feedback
I have lots of “standard” views of Lower Falls from both sides of the canyon. While I took a few of those, this is my attempt to emphasize the drama of spring by letting the ice formations cover a decent portion of the frame.

Wow. I was just looking at a video of Bierstadt’s work and then I come across this. This is so much like his vision of the natural world. It’s lavish and sublime, sublime in that it’s almost fearful. The grandeur is exaggerated with your composition. I wouldn’t change a thing. Although every picture can be improved and I’m sure if I look at this long enough I can thin of something. It is sort of like a painting but of a style no longer popular. N.C. Wyeth maybe?
I love how you can really see the scale of the waterfall here especially with the inclusion of the two singular trees along the rocky line on the right. I also love the three white elements (the water, the snow, and the mist) and how they are in harmony with each other. This image really shows the awesome power of nature and you did a great job with it. I like it a lot and no nits from me.
Wow Mark, this really conveys the scale and power of the water. I can almost hear the roar of the water. I think you’ve handled the dynamic range well also. The falls are very bright without being blown out. Nice job!
Well kudos for taking an atypical view, this is magnificent Mark. Capturing this intimate portion really holds the power of the falls, something that gets lost a bit in the big views. The trees are integral to this, because they provide perspective and allow the viewer to realize just how huge that waterfall is. Well done!
Nice isolation of the falls. I was just here a couple days ago and it’s difficult to show its true grandeur. I’ve also been here a few years ago too and I found using a telephoto created better images. This is a personal preference but I would bump up the vibrance or add a touch of contrast, just a touch, but that’s just my editing style
