Description
Another couple of shots that have been languishing on my hard drive. This is from last July when we drove from WI to Jackson WY to meet up with some other Porsche fanatics. It was a blast. The actual get together, not driving through the Dakotas, LOL. These shots were on a private airfield where our host lives. He got them to shut it down for about 1/2 an hour so we could drive as fast as we dared on the 6000 foot runway. We are probably going again this year and hope we can see his two F5 fighter jets. We didn’t see them this year because they were in the other hanger. Crazy.
Specific Feedback
So it’s tough to ignore skies and mountains even though the shot is really of those fabulous 911s. Did I reach a good compromise??
Technical Details
Handheld while trying not to take up too much time so we could get to blast off!
Lr for basic processing including working with masks to even out the exposures, boost some color, fix the wb and do the cropping.

While the cars are the obvious subject, that sky, particularly in the first image sure contributes to the feel of the image, Kris. I do think the sky tends to dominate the first image. I played with turning it into a pano-see what you think:
Kris: My first car was a 1973 Porsche 914. I couldn’t quite afford a 911 but I sure had a lot of fun with that little mid-engine roadster. I actually prefer the rear shot simply because of the light on the mountains in the BG. Inquiring minds want to know; did any of you deploy wings and take flight? >=))>
Oooh the pano works quite well, @Dennis_Plank - I shall rework. The cars really are the stars here, but oh, that sky - I couldn’t have ordered up a better one.
When we go to the Southern Indiana POA chapter drive in the summer, we usually see a 914 or two in the mix. They’re so cute. The mid-engine is a Cayman these days and there are a few of those sprinkled in with the 911s. Always a good event. Ours is the second in next to the white Turbo. Now that thing is FAST!
Kris: My 914 was painted Alaska Sky Blue Metallic. Looked similar to the darker blue 911 in your shot. Of course the good news/bad news about the 914 was it was a pure 2-seater and when our first son came around my wife had serious reservations about him riding in one of the trunks . Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. >=))>
Yeah, they are not the most practical cars around, especially for us northerners with the salted roads. We sold the snow tires for the last one to our friend in Tennessee who bought a couple year old 911 and even though they don’t get a lot of snow, the cold weather rating on the tires helps keep them on the pavement much better than the summers.
VEEERY cool! I love the wide angle perspective of the runway, which conveys speed on its own. The dramatic setting is wonderful and totally fits the cool cars! The colors fit the cars and I love the big sky in the two OPs – the cars stand out very well and are perfectly placed just below the lake. Must have been fun racing down the runway. (We only get to go partway down.)

Thanks @Diane_Miller - it was a lot of fun, but I can’t take credit for the car colors, LOL. It was fun and we’ll probably go again this year as he’s announced another meetup.
