Treed Coatimundi - Repost

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Although it is wild, this Coati was a regular robber of the hummingbird feeders at the Santa Rita Lodge in Madera Canyon. He really likes the peanut butter in the knot holes of the trees. He was in deep shade and this is a pretty big crop. It almost feels like it was an evening shot, but this was a 1:30 pm in the afternoon.

Specific Feedback

I hope I didn’t lose too much definition in the cropping and processing.

Technical Details

Canon 7D Mark II, 100-400 lens with 1.4 ext., at 280 mm, f7.1, 1/1600 sec, ISO 800.

Ed, what an interesting subject for the many of us who have never seen one of these. I like the eye contact, the position within the notch of the tree and the detail in the coati and the tree - there’s plenty of definition. I actually like the exposure a bit dark on this one myself. If it were my image, I would edit out the branch just to the left of the coati which distracts me a bit and also do some noise reduction. Thanks for sharing this!

Great subject in an interesting setting. I’m seeing lots of noise and some blue and magenta cast.

Interesting animal Ed (I have never heard of a Coati).
Given the constraints you have managed to get a decent image but I’m with J Rajput on this one, it seems to have a bit of a magenta cast

@JRajput Rajput, @Ron_Meeker , and @Ryan_H thank you for your comments. I went back to the original photo and tried to recreate the coati. I used the slider for cyan and magenta to reduce the off color and increased the noise reduction. I also cloned out some of the distracting branches. I like this version much better, thank you for your suggestions.
