Woke up and realized this image was a bit on the dark side, so did an edit.
Critique Style Requested: Standard
The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
Drove by this grove of trees three times before hitting just the right light. The scene reminded me of some of the Aspens I saw in Colorado a few years back.
Specific Feedback
I know I over-emphasized some of the bluish tones but the sky was turning gray-blue and I wanted to capture that kind of shadow light/color. Too much?

I like the straightforward simplicity. While I do like the darker version, the lighter one seems to convey the wonderful light falling on the trees.

Hi Chris! I think you did a good job capturing the gray-blue mood of the scene. The lighter version feels better to me.
Maybe it’s just due to compression and the hard light, but it looks as though the image may be a bit oversharpened? Just a thought.

More like compression as I did no overt sharpening other than about 10% in ACR.
Chris,
I understand what you were trying to accomplish with this photograph, but it just seems too underexposed. I can see shadows from direct sunlight hitting the trunks, but it seems like the development just pulled back on the luminosity. Also, at first I thought the trees were standing in front of a large gray rock wall of some sort, until I read that it was sky. That being the case, it seems like the trees just blend into the sky too well that both the trees and sky get lost. Have you considered converting this into a B&W photo? Perhaps you can work out some tonal separation between the sky and trees.
I like both versions but I think I’m partial to the dark one. I like the darker one because of how the center trees jump forward out of the darkness. There is also greater mystery in that one which I value very much. The color combinations are great. Good image.
