Image Description
After some hours on the beach doing low tide photography, when heading home, I decide to climb to hill and use a different road just to check for the trees in there.
I was aware of this amazing root with the (relative) low sun just pooping up on the top. I will need to work fast to get that gorgeous light, and to avoid the full sun hitting the scene. It was kind of windy so it took me some efforts to get a quieter moment and grab 3 or 4 exposures.
The composition is very tight, somehow confusing, but the background would ruin the photo.

I didn’t find the framing to worry over, however I did have some issues with the color cast (yellow-orange) and that the roots were not standing out from the background nearly enough.
I added a bit of darkness to the area most prominent behind the roots, especially on the left side, then I isolated a good part of the root structure and brightened them to push them out from that part of the BG. It’s only a suggestion. I love these roots as they would make a great Kallitype print.
My reaction was identical to @Chris_Calohan and I love his rework of your image. I would be tempted to slightly darken the LRC to achieve a more consistent tonality across the bottom of the image. It took a trained eye to see this scene and understand that there is an image there. Nice work.
My initial reaction is abstract lightning and its power. I agree with both @Chris_Calohan and @Bret_Edge; great suggestions to improve an already wonderful image.
Love this image. This image has vision and that’s not that common. My reaction is about flight. I view this from down upwards. I prefer the original over the rework. The rework actually changes the meaning of the image for me somehow.
I just have to chime in with how much I love this image. The way you’ve handled the light and the colour palette is superb. I absolutely agree with @Igor_Doncov. Comparing your presentation with Chris’s is, for me night and day. No offense to Chris, but for me, his take is fine but it completely misses the “other worldliness” that your presentation offers. It’s a question of mood again, which I think is what Igor was speaking to when he talked about it having “vision”. Beautiful work, Joao.
I like this image as presented. With regard to the cropping at the top, It does feel a bit crowded or busy to me. I wonder how it might work to crop that out. This would create a new problem though with it crowding the ends of the lower roots. Maybe some warping if that doesn’t violate your personal ethic on that sort of thing.
