What if the frames are the main subject?

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

My initial reaction was that this would be a spooky place to spend the night during a muscular rain-drenched storm. But this location is along the Cypress Grove trail in Point Lobos State Natural Reserve in California. And since they don’t have any camping spots inside the reserve, I’ll never really know.

Specific Feedback

I liked that the “size of the frames” got progressively smaller and more complex as one moved from left to right inside the image. I find this a pleasing compositional element.

Technical Details

I especially like that front tree on the left with all of it leaning branches. The sharpness throughout looks good also and having a “matching” grey sky fits the scene well.

Mark;

Thanks for the comments. Just out of curiosity, I flipped the image horizontally, so all the small branches “converged towards the right” instead of “diverging from the left”. It was weird how they both looked good but gave me a distinctly different feel. [The vesion I posted is the original “anatomically correct” version…]

Cheers,
