What's Up?

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Same Grebe on Tim’s Pond that I recently posted.

Specific Feedback

The water is lighter and less defined than in the previous one (Big Foot). Is it ok? Are the reeds a distraction? I did remove a couple reed reflections.

Technical Details

Canon 7DII; 100,400 @ 400; 1600 ISO; 5.6; Cloudy WB; 1/640th; -1/3rd; spot. Handheld.

The reeds are fine with me and I like the bright water, Jim. The comical (from a human point of view) head turn adds a lot to this image. This species, while superficially very plain looking, is one of the most photogenic in my opinion.

Hi Jim, I like the quirky head turn. The details and exposure look good to me. The reeds are okay with me and given they are reflecting through the ripples they may be a challenge to remove. Nice catch.

Nice one Jim. One of my favorite birds. I always think they’re smirking at me. Great head turn.

Dennis, Allen and David, Thank you. I returned to the pond this morning to see it it was still there. I did not see it. Hopefully, it moved to warmer place since the lake is beginning to freeze and snow is expected.

You caught a great pose, Jim, and have excellent detail. For me, the reeds give the image some context. And, I like the reflections.

@Allen_Brooks Thank you.
