"Where's the Water!"

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

While photographing ice on a local pond, this heron landed apparently thinking it could have breakfast. It strolled around looking through the ice, occasionally stopping to get a close look. It never struck the ice thinking it could catch a fish. It was on and around the pond for about 20 minutes giving me lots of opportunities for photos.

Specific Feedback

Nothing specific.

Ha! I love the storytelling in this image Jim!

I like seeing the bird in his habitat of matching colours. The open beak speaks of his disapproval.

This is quite the catch, Jim, with the bird and it’s open beak supporting your title nicely. It does feel quite disapproving.

For me, super capture. The DoF and processing handle the subject/background separation really well. Especially hard when everything is essentially the same color. You’ve got an engaging moment here. No notes.

Congrats!!

The complementary color palette works well, Jim. I like the composition and the open beak. Nice light on the ice as well.

A nice composition and the thin sheet of water and open beak along with your title make a great story, Jim.

Love the icy setting and the open beak pose of the bird. Nice story telling. The open space composition gives us a sense of the bird wandering around which fits the title.
