Whooper Swans

Whooper Swans are the largest birds in Iceland and the only swan that shows up on the island. They migrate over from Western Asia, and northern Europe. Many fly directly from the British Isles to Iceland for their migration. They are quite common throughout Iceland, at least in June when I was there. They seem to hang out in groups of 4 to 12. Many had chicks along with them especially those in water settings. I don’t believe there are any in North America although I could be wrong. Sibley doesn’t have much to say about their presence in North America.

Wonderful series, David. Can’t help but love the little ducklings. Thanks for posting.

I love the middle image, David! It’s so sweet! Love how the little one is looking up at mom or dad! Really beautiful capture!

Great subjects. I also like the second image the best. Nice family behavior. I wish the Swans in the third image were a little more to the right to give them more room to walk through the image. I like the wing positions in the first image.

Hi David
Nice series of photograph. I also really like the family shot, the Swans on parade then, the hardest to get right, a head on shot with two birds in focus. Nice work.
