Winter storm

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This is a spot I walk or XC ski in often in part because of the long views across a farm field. Here a storm blowing in and the silhouettes of a band of trees did not disappoint.

Hi John - I really like your composition here and the simplicity of this image, and I think you’ve definitely captured the feeling of an impending storm. I would maybe experiment with lifting the whites a bit. I think you’re going for a dark mood in this image, but to me, the snow-covered field and the snow on the trees could be a bit brighter. Just a thought. I really like the image as is.

This style of photograph always appeals to me, particularly because it is set in the wide outdoors, which this image captures really well. I agree with John Kilgour’s idea of lifting the whites, and i think that might be isolated to the sky to provide an increased backdrop between it and the dark trees. But overally I really like this image!
