There is a tranquility here that I find very soothing.

You might consider burning down the bright areas of the tree trunk in the background because it catches my eye. Other than that minor item, this is a nice image,

You more often ensconce us in green, so this is a fun variation to see from you. I think the trunk is a fine and bold subject, and the patterned vegetation behind (with it’s loss of detail behind) is a good supporting cast.

I prefer this with those shadows on the trunk opened up just a little. If you keep them dark though, you might consider dropping their saturation just a bit.

Hi Ben,
This is a little different; due to the lack of luscious greens; than your usual fare, but I find it to be just as beautiful. The solitary birch is the star of the show and it is perfectly placed in the scene. I do like the way the DOF falls off in the BG and makes the FG tree even more prominent. The backlighting works really well and has created some nice rim light in a couple of areas. Very nicely done IMO. Of course the haiku is perfect for the image.

Ben, your emphasis on that curving tree trunk works very well here. It’s darkness separates it well from the surroundings as it emphasizes the big curve. When I see trees like this, I like to think of the growth story that the shape tells. This one looks like it was almost blown over early in its life.
