"A Peaceful Rain"

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Wide Lens practice at the backyard yesterday. Here in the south we can get daily storms. So I tried to capture the rain as it came over the garden in back yard. Rain can bring a Peace to your day. I was eating dinner and camera on the table and door behind me opened. Rain and fresh air. So i shot a few frames and thought I would post this image. To create a vibe of calm !!!

Specific Feedback

Color or B&W ??? I just tried to capture that vibe of beauty in the rain coming down. Decided not to change the bottom of this image. To keep it as I saw it. No cropping. This is way I framed it.

Technical Details

ISO 3200 F16 Light edit in Photoshop. Mostly Dodging and some contrast adjustments… Keep it simple

Nice backyard, Gill. The mood of the image is nice and soft even though you have some prominent blacks. You may consider lowering the luminosity (reduce the highlights) of the whites near the ULC and carefully increasing whites in the leaves of the tree at center. I’d be real gentle with this, so you don’t lose the affect of the rain. Working on reducing the highlights at left may also help recovering the rain which seems to be mostly on the right of the image. It’s fun to photograph in your yard. You have done a nice job with this image.

This is a nice peaceful image. We haven’t seen rain in CA for so long I’ve forgotten what it’s like. The tones look good to me and the fact one can see the falling drops is real nice. My only concern/nit is the building in the background and the bald sky above it. You might consider a crop to eliminate it.

I agree with @Larry_Greenbaum regarding increasing the whites in the central tree.

Thanks. I mostly hand dodged the tree and the rain. Trying to have Black , White and Gray in between. The building in the back was really showing the rain. But couldn’t quite capture it. I decided not to crop this image and keep the vibe of what I saw and Felt.

Thanks for showing interest. I really appreciate your comments. Always helpful. :folded_hands::globe_showing_americas::folded_hands::camera_with_flash::folded_hands:

Nice job on the tonality to convey that peaceful feel, Gill.
